London: Despite losing five consecutive ODI series since taking charge of the England cricket team, it appears Alastair Cook has the ECB's faith until next year's World Cup.
The England selectors persisted with the struggling opener, whose captaincy and 50-over batting strike-rate have come under fire repeatedly this summer, by naming him in charge of a 16-man squad to play seven ODIs in Sri Lanka later this year.
Essex allrounder Ravi Bopara has been recalled after missing out against India, while Nottinghamshire batsman James Taylor also returned after last playing an ODI in September against Sri Lanka.
Though he rebounded from a lean period to skipper England to a 3-1 Test series win over India earlier this summer, Cook the ODI player has struggled in recent times. England lost to India 3-1 in the ensuing 50-over contest at home, and personally Cook had a lean series to extend a poor run of form that goes back to June 2012.
Since then, the left-hand opener is averaging 32.21 at a strike-rate of 72.46 and has only one one fifty in his last 16 innings. England selectors, however, left out Yorkshire batsman Gary Ballance.
The 16-man squad leaves for Sri Lanka on November 16.
