Marvan Atapattu Appointed as Sri Lanka Head Coach

Former Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu has been named as the team's new head coach following a successful spell as an interim coach.

The former opening batsman took over following the resignation of Paul Farbrace in April and has overseen Test series victories over England and Pakistan.

Atapattu has played 90 Tests and 268 ODIs for Sri Lanka, scoring more than 14,000 international runs. He is the first Sri Lankan to coach his country full time for 15 years.

Atapattu's predecessor Farbrace, who led Sri Lanka to the World Twenty20 title in April, left later that month to become England's assistant coach.

The former Sri Lankan skipper's first assignment as full-time coach would be a seven-game ODI series against England in November and December, the report added.
