Cook to Lead England in 2015 World Cup

London: Despite losing five consecutive ODI series since taking charge of the England cricket team, Alastair Cook has been chosen to lead the England team for the 2015 World Cup in Australia - New Zealand.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Cook's appointment as skipper will be confirmed on Tuesday morning. The England skipper, who has been under tremendous pressure due to the string of poor results, was told that he will lead the team for the winter tour to Sri Lanka in November - December. England play seven ODIs in the tour after which they will head to Australia to play India and Australia in a tri-series.

National selector James Whitaker and his panel of head coach Peter Moores, Angus Fraser and Mick Newell met at the ECB headquarters on Monday to discuss the strategy for the winter. In the meeting, it was decided that they will back Cook as skipper for the next few months.

Cook's own personal form with the bat has been wretched and analysts like Geoffrey Boycott, Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann have called for him to step down.

However, Whitaker and the panel decided that with only Eoin Morgan and Joe Root as the alternatives for the captaincy, there was nothing to be gained by dumping Cook as skipper.
