Nottingham: India batsman Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against England.
Rohit, who made a fifty in India's big win in the second ODI at Cardiff, fractured his finger while fielding later in the match on Wednesday.
Murali Vijay, India's highest-scorer in the Test series, has been called up as a replacement. Rohit won't also feature in the one-off T20 following the five-ODI series. This wasn't the first time that the Mumbai batsman suffered such a fate. In India's last tour of England in 2011, he was struck on the right hand by a Stuart Broad bouncer in the first ODI and the resultant fracture brought his series to a premature end.
"Rohit Sharma has sustained a fracture on the middle finger of his right hand, and has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI and T20 International Series against England, as a result," a BCCI press release said on Friday.
India play the third ODI at Trent Bridge on Saturday. The opening encounter ended in a washout without a ball being bowled.
