Brisbane: Australian all-rounder Shane Watson will miss this month's one-day tour of Zimbabwe after hurting his ankle in training in Brisbane on Saturday.
Philip Hughes will take his place. Watson is hoping that he will be fit for the UAE tour where Australia will take on Pakistan in October.
According to a report in the Brisbane Times, Watson stood on a ball during the indoor session at the Centre of Excellence and sprained his ankle. He'll miss the triangular series against Zimbabwe and South Africa starting in Harare on August 25.
This is not the first time that an Australian player has trod on a cricket ball to miss a match. In the 2005 Ashes contest, Glenn McGrath trod on a cricket ball just before the start of the second Test at Edgbaston and he missed the match. Australia went on to lose the Test by two runs.
Hughes was not included in the original 14-man squad chosen on Aug. 3 despite a double-century for Australia A a week earlier. Australia plays Zimbabwe on Aug. 25 and 31, and South Africa on Aug. 27 and Sept. 2, with the top two teams meeting in a final at Harare on Sept. 6.
