England v India, 4th Investec Test, Old Trafford

Ishant Miss 4th Test Against England

Southampton: After suffering a heavy 266-run defeat to England in the third Test at Southampton, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni confirmed during the post-match presentation that fast bowler Ishant Sharma will not be available for the fourth Test to be played at Old Trafford from August 7.

Sharma, who had put in a Man of the match performance during India's 95-run with second innings figures of 7 for 74, was ruled out of the third Test just before the toss owing to an ankle injury and Dhoni confirmed that pacer will not be fit in time for the fourth Test as well.

Ishant's unavailability comes as a huge setback for India after their crushing loss in which the bowlers conceded nearly 900 runs in two innings with fast bowlers Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and debutant Pankaj Singh putting in below average performances.

Shami has been the least effective of the lot taking just five wickets at an average of over 73 while Pankaj had a rather forgettable debut (0/179). If Dhoni decides to ring in changes for the fourth Test, Shami looks most likely to sit out. This will give an opportunity for India's two other fast bowlers - Varun Aaron and Ishwar Pandey - to make their first appearance in the series.

Aaron, 24, played his only Test three years back in 2011 at Mumbai against West Indies returning with three wickets while Pandey, 24, is yet to make his Test debut.
