Colombo: Upul Tharanga and Kithuruwan Vithanage have made a surprise return to Sri Lanka's 16-man ODI squad for the series against South Africa starting July 6.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Chandimal and Chathuranga de Silva were the ones omitted from the line-up.
Tharanga's last international appearance came in an ODI against Ireland in May, which was his only game since July last year. Similarly, Vithanage too played in Dublin but wasn't a part of Sri Lanka' 3-2 win against England last month.
Suranga Lakmal makes a comeback after the medium-pace was injured during the ODI's against Sri Lanka. Lakmal, who pulled his hamstring during the first ODI, was replaced by Dhammika Prasad for the second one-dayer before eventually being replaced by Rangana Herath.
