Delhi: Dwayne Smith scored a superb 79 while Raina chipped in with an unbeaten 47 as Chennai easily chase 178 made by Delhi Daredevils with 2 balls to spare at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Monday.
Chasing 179, CSK achieved their target in the last over for the loss of just two wickets, maintaining their place at the top of the IPL 7 leaderboard with win No 6.
CSK's shock loss to Kings XI Punjab on April 18 seems a long time ago, and the two-time winners are now fast-tracked to become the first team to make the playoffs.
For DD wasteful run out of Quinton de Kock, a golden duck for Kevin Pietersen and three wickets in eight balls during the middle stage left too much for JP Duminy - batting too low at No 6 - to do in order to provide a late assault.
JP and Kedar Jadhav did well to take 44 off the last three overs, but Daredevils were left clueless in the face of another dominant stand from CSK's in-form openers.
Dwayne Smith started in high gear and kept the accelerator floored all the way until he fell for a 51-ball 79. His partnership of 82 with Brendon McCullum set the tone and his whirlwind stand of 86 in 44 balls with Suresh Raina ensured the rain rule didn't come into play as drizzle threatened to hold up play.
Three consecutive sixes off Jaydev Unadkat's first over took Smith level with Glenn Maxwell for the most maximums, and soon the record was his when he lofted Shahbaz Nadeem over long-on for his 20th six.
McCullum played second fiddle - he earned a life on 23 when Jadhav grassed a difficult chance at point - and by the time he was held inside the long-on ropes by Vijay for 32, CSK had knocked off 82 from their target.
Raina only had to get the score moving with the way Smith was tonking the ball around, and the rest of the chase was a flurry of cracking pulls and effortless lofts down the ground. Smith collected eights sixes in his bullish 79 while Raina added a 47 off 27 balls to his season tally.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and have opted to field.
