Dhaka - An impressive 106-run partnership between Rohit Sharma (62*) and Virat Kohli (54) helped India beat West Indies by 7 wickets in their ICC World T20 match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The Rohit-Kohli duo stitched a quick-fire stand for the second wicket after opener Shikhar Dhawan (0) failed to judge Samuel Badree's quicker delivery was caught leg before wicket early in the innings.
Kohli reached his fifty off 34 balls and hit 5 smashing boundaries and a single scintillating six in his gritty innings. Rohit, on the other hand, reached his half-century in 44 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes to his credit.
Earlier, brilliant bowling by Ravindra Jadeja (3/48) and Amit Mishra (2/18) helped India restrict West Indies to 129/7.
After getting off to a slow start, West Indies first lost the wicket of opener Dwayne Smith (11) when R Ashwin successfully caught him off his own bowling.
West Indies's miseries were further deepened as the flamboyant Chris Gayle (34) too returned back to the pavilion when he fell short of his crease in his attempt to steal a cheeky single.
Smith along with Gayle put up a crawling 38-run partnership in which Gayle survived twice as he was dropped on 0 and 9 after Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl.
Spinner Mishra then joined the wicket-taking party when he picked up two wickets in two balls.
Mishra first dismissed Marlon Samuels (18) by getting the batsman stumped brilliantly by MS Dhoni before catching Dwayne Bravo (0) plumb to leave West Indies in tatters.
Ravindra Jadeja then rubbed more salt on the West Indies wounds when he scalped skipper Darren Sammy (11) by getting him caught superbly at the boundary ropes by Rohit Sharma.
Soon after, Jadeja picked up his second and third wickets of the match by dismissing Andre Russell (7) and Lendl Simmons (27) in the last over of the innings.
Earlier, India have won the toss and have opted to field.
