Hamilton: Ross Taylor hit an unbeaten century as New Zealand took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series with a crushing seven-wicket win against India in the fourth one-day international at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Tuesday.
New Zealand chased down the 279-run target in 48.1 overs riding on Taylor's unbeaten hundred and captain Brendon McCullum's swashbuckling 36-ball 49 that was studded with 3 sixes and 4 fours.
McCullum finished the match with a six off Varun Aaron over long-off.
Taylor got to his ninth ODI hundred off 110 balls with a blazing square cut off Varun Aaron with the ball going past the boundary in a flash.
Ravindra Jadeja gave India the much-needed breakthrough when he ran out Kane Williamson with a direct hit to place New Zealand at 188/3.
Williamson played a Jadeja delivery towards short mid-on and set off for a quick single, but Jadeja moved fast to get to the ball and in a flash picked it up with his right hand, slipped it into his left, turned around and fired the ball to break the stumps at the non-strikers' end where Williamson was well short.
Williamson hit two sixes and 2 fours in his 82-ball 60 and put up a 130-run stand for the third wicket with Ross Taylor to bring New Zealand's run chase back on track. Williamson got to his fourth successive half-century off 67 deliveries.
New Zealand lost their first wicket when Ryder (19) edged a Aaron delivery onto his stumps and in the next over Shami trapped Guptill (35) plumb in front of the wicket.
Chasing a 279-run target, Martin Guptill and Ryder brought up New Zealand's fifty in seven overs.
Earlier, Indian captain MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja smashed unbeaten half-centuries as India set a 279-run target for New Zealand.
Dhoni ended the Indian innings on a high by smashing the last ball of the innings for a six off James Neesham over mid-wicket.
Dhoni and Jadeja scored 124 runs off the last 15 overs to remain unbeaten on 79 and 62 respectively for an unbroken 127-run stand for the sixth wicket.
Dhoni's knock was studded with 3 sixes and 6 fours that came off 73 balls, while Jadeja hit 2 sixes and 8 fours off the 54 deliveries that he faced.
While Dhoni smashed some fierce shots to score a 58-ball 50, Jadeja got to his fifty off 46 deliveries.
Rohit Sharma hit a 94-ball 79 before edging a Kane Williamson delivery down the leg side for Luke Ronchi to take the catch. Sharma looked to play a delivery down the leg side but Ronchi did well to move across to the leg side and took a juggling catch. His knock was studded with 4 sixes and 6 fours.
Ravichandran Ashwin fell in the next over when Tim Southee had him caught by Hamish Bennett at third man.
Indian batsmen's difficulty against short-pitched bowling came to the fore again with the dismissal of Ambati Rayudu.
Bennett got a delivery to rise, Rayudu first moved back and across which made hard to play the pull shot to the ball above the waist, he got a top edge and the skier was easily pouched by Luke Ronchi.
Playing his first match of the series, Rayudu hit two sixes and three fours in his 58-ball 37 and added 79 runs for the third wicket with Rohit Sharma.
Sharma and Rayudu put up a 50-run stand off 77 balls for the third wicket to rebuild the Indian innings.
Sharma reached his fifty off 72 balls with a six off James Neesham over long-off.
Electing to bat, India lost Ajinkya Rahane (3) and Virat Kohli (2) early after a very cautious start.
India's cautious start turned into a disaster as Rahane's wicket in the ninth over left the visitors tottering at 22/2 in 8.2 overs. Rahane got out trying to hook a short ball off Kyle Mills, only to give away a simple catch to Tim Southee at fine leg.
Kohli too mistimed a short delivery from Southee to give away an early breakthrough to the hosts in the fourth over as Jimmy Neesham took the catch at the mid-wicket.
Indian openers started their innings very slowly, managing just 3 runs in the first three overs, before Kohli's wicket reduced them to 5/1 in 3.2 overs.
Earlier, India have won the toss and have opted to bat.
Stuart Binny debut is in so Suresh Raina out, and Shikhar Dhawan sits out for Ambati Rayudu.
New Zealand have brought back Kyle Mills and Jimmy Neesham in. Bit of a rest for Corey Anderson and Mitchell McClenaghan.
