Abu Dhabi: Dinesh Chandimal remained unbeaten on 64 off 70 balls as Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by two wickets in a thriller in the fifth and final day-night international in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Pakistan won the 5-match series 3-2.
Dinesh Chandimal made 3rd ODI fifty. He chose a thriller to end the drought, guiding Sri Lanka home in the last over in the company of Ajantha Mendis.
Sri Lanka went into the Tests with a scoreline of 2-3, but it could easily have been 1-4. Pakistan made the target of 233 look like 333, despite Kusal Perera's blitzing 47 at the start.
They absorbed those early blows, and came back with venom, their spinners tying Sri Lanka down and their fast bowlers taking crucial wickets. Chandimal and Mendis battled through all that pressure when Sri Lanka were 195 for 8, their unbroken stand of 40 coming in only 4.1 overs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka paceman Lasith Malinga took four wickets to help Sri Lanka restrict Pakistan to 232.
Malinga finished with 4-57 as Pakistan, already enjoying an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the series, slumped from 128-3 to 194-8 after they won the toss and batted on a flat Sheikh Zayed Stadium pitch.
Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq top-scored with 51 while in-form batsman Mohammad Hafeez, who scored three centuries in the series, made 41.
Anwar Ali chipped in with a fiery 38-ball 41 not out spiced with one six and two fours.
Pakistan, who had not been all out in the previous four matches of the series, found the going tough after openers Ahmed Shehzad (17) and Sharjeel Khan (18) by 13th over.
Malinga made it 70-3 by dismissing Sohaib Maqsood (seven) before Misbah and Hafeez shared 58-run stand for the fourth wicket before the innings once again derailed.
Hafeez was bowled by Angelo Mathews after his 56-ball knock with two boundaries.
Malinga then came into his own, sending Misbah back off caught behind and then trapped Abdul Rehman (one) to leave Pakistan struggling at 176-7. In between Ajantha Mendis had Umar Akmal (20) caught at short mid-wicket.
Misbah hit two boundaries and a six during his 74-ball knock, finishing with 1371 runs in 34 one-day matches this year -- the most by any player.
Earlier, Pakistan have won the toss and decided to bat first.
Some team changes for Pakistan straightaway as Anwar Ali comes in for Bilawal Bhatti, while Abdur Rehman replaces Shahid Afridi.
Ajantha Mendis replaced Nuwan Kulasekera in Sri Lanka squad.
