London: England have named a 13-man squad for the first Ashes Test, which starts at Trent Bridge on 10 July.
Batsman Kevin Pietersen and spinner Graeme Swann have both been included having overcome recent injury concerns.
Opener Nick Compton's omission is confirmed, with Joe Root set to open the batting with captain Alastair Cook.
Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad are expected to lead the bowling attack, with Tim Bresnan, Steve Finn and Graham Onions also vying for a seamer's spot.
Pietersen has not played a Test match since March when he had to pull out of the series in New Zealand with a knee injury.
Swann will be the sole spinner, despite an injury scare at Chelmsford when he was struck on the right forearm while batting, but an X-ray showed no fracture.
England hold the Ashes after winning the last series 3-1 down under in 2010-11 - their third victory in the past four series.
