Sri Lanka-Pakistan Warm-up Match Washed out

Birmingham: The first warm-up match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, building up to the Champions Trophy 2013, was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday (May 30).

The day-night encounter was originally scheduled to start at 1pm local time but persistent rain forced Bruce Oxenford and Rod Tucker, the two on field umpires, to slot the first inspection for 2.30pm.

Though most of the covers were off by then, yet another inspection at 3.15pm and the third inspection at 4pm did not produce a favourable result.

A bit more of rain and poor outfield forced the officials to call off the match at 4.06pm.

Sri Lanka’s next warm-up match is a day game against India on June 1 at the same venue, while Pakistan plays West Indies at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on June 3 in a day-night affair.

Five out of the eight competing teams have been allocated two warm-up games each with South Africa playing only one. England is currently hosting New Zealand in a three-match bilateral one-day international series, which serves as its preparation for the last edition of the Champions Trophy.
