London: Seam bowler Jade Dernbach has been drafted into the England squad for the one-day international series against New Zealand, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Surrey player will provide cover for Tim Bresnan, whose wife is due to give birth.
"Jade Dernbach has been added to the ODI squad for the NatWest Series as cover for Tim Bresnan. Bresnan's wife is due to give birth during the series and he may leave for a short time," read a statement from the ECB.
Bresnan has not played for England since January, having subsequently undergone elbow surgery, but he has returned to action for country side Yorkshire.
England will hope he is able to return for the national side in time for the start of the Champions Trophy, which begins four days after the third and final one-day match against New Zealand at Trent Bridge on June 5.
England tackle New Zealand in the first one-day international at Lord's on Friday.
