Sunrisers in Playoffs, Bangalore Out

Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad held their nerve and beat Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets with 7 balls to spare in the last league clash of IPL at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Sunday.

They qualify for the playoffs finishing 4th in the points table .

Chasing 131-run target to qualify for the playoffs, Hyderabad looked comfortably placed to win it by aplenty and then from 89/0 they capitulated to 112/5. Narine bowled a superb maiden which brought the required-rate up to eight. Then Sammy hit two sixes and they were through

Spinner Iqbal Abdulla struck again in the 16th over to dismiss Hanuma Vihari (6) and reduced the hosts to 108/4 in 15.3 overs.

Hyderabad lost Cameron White soon after Abdulla magic as a confusion with Vihari left the skipper stranded in the pitch to be run out for just 2 runs.

Hyderabad lost Parthiv Patel (47) and Shikhar Dhawan (42) after a solid start.

Abdulla struck twice in quick succession to halt the Sunrisers run chase as he dismissed Patel in the 14th over soon after removing Dhawan in his previous over.

Patel played an aggressive 37-ball knock, which included seven hits to the fence. More importantly the opening duo leave Hyderabad closer to their playoffs spot.

Dhawan smacked two maximums and three boundaries in his quick-fire 35 balls innings before Iqbal Abdulla trapped him leg before in the twelfth over.

Dhawan added crucial 89-run opening stand with Patel.

Hyderabad raced to fifty in just 7.2 overs without losing a wicket.

Earlier, asked to field first, disciplined Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers restricted Kolkata to a moderate 130/7.

Yusuf Pathan remained the top scorer for Kolkata making an unbeaten 49 in just 29 balls.

Electing to bat, Kolkata Knight Riders lost opener Manvinder Bisla (15) after a slow start.

Thisara Perera provided the first breakthrough for the hosts in the fifth over as he dismissed Bisla to reduce KKR to 25/1 in 4.3 overs. Bisla hit three boundaries in his patient 18-ball innings.

Sunrisers Hyderabad claimed second success in the eighth over by getting skipper Gautam Gambhir run out after his 10-run knock. Gambhir's dismissal came at the score of 42.

Karan Sharma inflicted third blow on Kolkata Knight Riders just after they crossed 50-mark by trapping Eoin Morgan leg before wickets in the 11th over.

Morgan scored just nine and got out at the score of 59.

Dale Steyn ended Jacques Kallis's challenge in 16th over by getting him caught by Shikhar Dhawan after his struggling knock of 24 off 29 balls, reducing Kolkata to 89/4.

Amit Mishra gave visitors fifth blow by trapping RN ten Doeschate leg before on the first delivery of the 17th over.

Earlier, Kolkata have made five changes but much like most of the tournament, Gambhir thinks he has a quality side to replace them.

Ishant Sharma misses out for Hyderabad. Anand Rajan comes in for him.
