Mumbai: Mumbai Indians continued their domination at fortress Wankhede, thumping Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs to ensure that they moved up to second place.
Chasing a stiff 171 for victory, Gautam Gambhir's men could manage only 105 in 18.2 overs on a track with generous grass, but one that also aided spin.
Left-arm-seamer Mitchell Johnson struck early again, getting the wicket of Gautam Gambhir, bowled for a duck. It was the 11th time the Aussie has dismissed him in all competitions.
Yusuf Pathan struck a six and a four but was castled by Ojha for 13. Jacques Kallis struggled to force the pace again, falling to Harbhajan for a 26-ball 24. The offie mixed up his length and pace nicely to end with three wickets for 27.
Any hopes of a miracle rested on the enterprising Eoin Morgan. But the Irishman sliced Abu Nechim to Rohit Sharma at point to settle the contest.
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar (48, 28b, 8x4) hit the rewind button in a vintage exhibition of strokeplay. MI's innings was marred by malfunctioning floodlights.
Under fire for being too slow in the powerplays, Tendulkar hit former teammate Ryan McLaren, (replacing Senanayake), for five successive boundaries in his second over, the fourth of the innings.
His vintage strokeplay illuminated the night briefly before darkness descended at the Wankhede after two banks of floodlights malfunctioned, causing the players to leave the ground for 18 minutes when the hosts were 63 for no loss after nine overs.
That 18-minute break in play though affected Smith's rhythm as he struggled to get KKR left-arm-spinner Iqbal Abdulla away. Abdulla impressed in his spell of 4-0-30-1 and bowled wide outside offstump with a packed off-side field. The tactic irritated the West Indian even as Tendulkar stroked his way to 48 (28 balls, 8x4) before being castled by Rajat Bhatia.
Tendulkar added 93 for the first wicket with Smith in 13 overs before Smith too departed to Abdulla for 47 (53b, 7x4). The platform was set for Mumbai's power hitters to do the damage in the death.
Earlier, Mumbai India have won the toss again and chosen to bat.
One change in MI Pawan Suyal has a hamstring injury, Abu Nechim replace him.
Couple of changes in KKR Senanayake and Sumit Narwal are not playing, Balaji and McLaren in.
