Hyderabad: Nothing seems to be going wrong for the Sunrisers in their first season despite a batting line-up whose form and experience has been time and again questioned.
Ever since they clinched the one-over Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home on April 7, they have crisscrossed the length and breadth of the country with stops at Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune.
So, to be at home at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium against Kings XI Punjab on Friday should feel nice for the team now third on the charts for the reason that some low-scoring matches have impacted their run-rate, negatively.
Still, with eight points from six games - the same as second-placed Royal Challengers - and toppers Rajasthan Royals, who have played a game less, SRH will look to maintain their all-win record at the venue before they head into a week's break.
Given the fact that their next away game is against Chennai Super Kings, the SRH cannot be faulted for resting Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara - who will anyway sit out the match against Super Kings like Angelo Mathews did the other day - so that Quinton de Kock can find his feet in the long tournament.
The 20-year-old South African did not set Pune on fire. But the left-hander, who top-scored for the Lions as they humbled Titans in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge final in Johannesburg recently, is likely to be persisted with as the SRH look to make the most of powerplay overs with two left-handers at the top; Parthiv Patel being the other.
The lack of thrust at the top might have resulted in below par totals, but the 11-run win over Pune Warriors on Wednesday best exemplified the never-say-die spirit of the SRH and the ability to pull rabbits out of the hat, courtesy their bowlers, who have choked the opposition remarkably well.
Dale Steyn, Thisara Perera and Ishant Sharma have been impressive. And in Amit Mishra, the leg-spinner who has registered a hat-trick with three different teams - Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers and now Sunrisers - in six editions of the tournament, the hosts have a go-to man who has delivered three player of the match performances.
