Chennai: With 2 needed off the last ball, RP Singh had Jadeja caught at 3rd man but had overstepped giving Chennai a narrow 4 wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their IPL clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.
Chennai: With 2 needed off the last ball, RP Singh had Jadeja caught at 3rd man but had overstepped giving Chennai a narrow 4 wicket win.
Chasing 165, Chennai looked dead and gone and needed 16 to win off RP Singh's last over when Ravindra Jadeja smote ten off the first two balls. A couple, sandwiched between singles, left the requirement on two to win and one to tie off the last ball.
Jadeja cut the last delivery straight to Virat Kohli at third man, but the umpire called a no-ball as RP had over-stepped by a mile. Chennai thus won a thriller by four wickets, something that looked unlikely when
they were 78/4.
Syed Mohammad dismissed both set batsmen Suresh Raina and S Badrinath in quick succession after their fighting show to reduce Chennai to 78/4 in 12.2 overs in their chase of 166.
Syed Mohammad got Suresh Raina caught by Murali Kartik at short third man to give Chennai third blow at the score of 66 in the 11th over.
Raina scored 30 off 22 balls and shared 56-run stand for the third wicket to lift his side after early blows.
In his next over Syed struck again to end Badrinath's challenge by getting him caught at deep cover by Mayank Agarwal.
Chennai got off to a disastrous start in their chase of 166 as they lost both openers with just 10 runs on board.
First Ravi Rampaul got rid of Murali Vijay in the third over with just four runs on board. Vijay was caught behind by Arun Karthik.
Before the side could recover, Vinay Kumar inflicted another blow by sending back Hussey.
Skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers struck fine half centuries and shared 82-run stand between them to help Royal Challengers Bangalore post 165 for six.
De Villiers blazed his way to a 32-ball 64, laced with eight fours and one six, while Kohli cashed on a dropped chance and caught-behind appeal to score 47-ball 58 as the visitors put up a sizeable total after invited to bat at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
Bangalore were on course to put up a total in excess of 180 on a batting friendly Chepauk track but pacer Chris Morris pegged them back with his twin strikes in the 17th over.
Morris finished with a figure of three for 40, which included the prized scalp of hard-hitting West Indian Chris Gayle and Kohli, while Dirk Nannes, Dwayne Bravo and R Ashwin also chipped in with a wicket each.
Kohli and de Villiers sent the CSK bowlers on a leather hunt as both scored at a brisk pace to enthrall the packed crowd with their dazzling strokeplay.
Both put on 82-run partnership for the third wicket in just 48 balls to lay the foundation for a strong total.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl.
They included Mohit Sharma for the game while Bangalore made as many as four changes with Muralitharan, Henriques and Lokesh Rahulamong those who missed out, they replaced with Ravi Rampaul, Dan Christian and left-arm spinner Syed Mohammad.
