Daredevils Lose Again in Tight Finish

New Delhi: Despite great effort by the bowlers in mid over, Delhi Daredevils failed to restrict Hyderabad as they reached the 115-run target in the final over to win the IPL clash by three wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Friday.

After losing Akshath Reddy early, Hyderabad were approaching the target steadily before Shahbaz Nadeem took a simple return catch of Parthiv Patel, triggering Hyderabad collapse in the eighth over.

Patel scored 19 and got caught and bowled by Nadeem at the score of 46 in the eighth over.

Patel's dismissal was followed by quick wickets of Kumar Sangakkara, Cameron White and Hanuma Vihari that gave Delhi hope.

Johan Both gave Delhi Daredevils third success by dismissing Kumar Sangakkara after Hyderabad crossed 50-mark.

Sangakkara made 28 before getting caught by Virender Sehwag in the 11th over at the score of 55.

Nadeem struck again in his next over to send back Cameron White. White was soon joined by Vihari in the dressing room as he became the first victim of Morne Morkel.

Superb fielding by Shahbaz Nadeem sent Akshath Reddy back in the second over after Sunrisers Hyderabad restricted Delhi Daredevils to a moderate total of 114/8.

Earlier, Delhi Daredevils put up a spineless batting show as they set a small target for the visitors.

Hyderabad played to their strength, with the disciplined bowling attack piling on the misery on the Delhi batsmen, who have been struggling since the beginning of the tournament.

Delhi must have expected an inspiring start from Virender Sehwag after electing to bat but the out-of-favour India opener could not help the side, looking for its first win after three defeats.

His contribution was just 12 runs as Delhi top-order failed again. Kumar Sangakkara was smart in his captaincy as he shuffled his bowlers intelligently, never allowing Delhi batsmen to pay freely on a wicket that has uneven bounce.

Hyderabad bowlers, led by the lethal South African paceman, Dale Steyn, kept jolting the hosts with regular wickets by keeping a tight line and not giving any leeway. The fielders too supported them well.

Credit must go to the Hyderabad bowlers, but Delhi also batted poorly.

Kedar Jadhav, who is in India's probables list for the Champion Trophy, was the only batsman who batted with purpose, top scoring with an unbeaten 30 off 20 balls.

Jadahav's 30-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Irfan Pathan (23) was the highest for the hosts, which put on board the second lowest total of the season so far.

Steyn (2/11), Thishara Perera (2/31) and Ishant Sharma (2/35) shared six wickets among them.

Steyn provided a spectacular start to his side, bowling a wicket-maiden as he dismissed the in-form David Warner (0) in the fourth ball and almost had Jayawardene (12) the next ball, but Parthiv Patel grassed the tough chance.

Earlier, Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat.

Delhi Daredevils have brought in dashing opener Virender Sehwag to strengthen their top order.

Having lost their first three matches in this year's league, and looking ragged and somewhat pedestrian, the team which dominated the league phases just a year back needs to win on Friday.

Their opponents are not the strongest side in the tournament but do boast of a fine opening attack, led by Dale Steyn who is partnered by Ishant Sharma.

The batting is being held together by the pair of Cameron White and Thisara Perera, both of whom can clear the boundaries with ease.
