Centurion: A brilliant all-round performance by skipper Hafeez with some sensational bowling from Gul helped Pakistan beat South Africa by 95 runs in the 2nd T20I at SuperSport Park on Sunday.
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez is the man of the match for his knock of 86. He became the first Pakistan player to reach 1000 runs in T20Is and he also take three crusial wickets.
The Proteas got off to a solid start as they raced to 50 in five overs. AB de Villers unfurled his Vil-Scoop and looked set to take the game away from Pakistan. Umar Gul came into the attack and he changed the complexion of the game. He took four wickets in seven balls as South Africa collapsed. The other bowlers, especially Mohammad Hafeez, ran through the tail and in the end, Pakistan have emerged victorious by a margin of 95 runs.
Earlier, Hafeez's career-best effort enabled Pakistan to score an imposing 195 for seven in what was effectively a series decider after the first match in Durban was washed out.
Appointed Pakistan?s captain in the shortest form of the game, Hafeez thrashed four sixes and nine fours off 50 balls. When he was on 73 he became the first Pakistani to reach 1000 runs in T20 internationals.
His innings was in dramatic contrast to his struggles in a three-match Test series which ended last week in which he could score only 43 runs in six innings at an average of 7.16
A second wicket partnership of 83 off 48 balls with Ahmed Shehzad set Pakistan on target for a massive total but the innings lost momentum when Hafeez was out hit wicket with the total on 170 off the third ball of the 17th over.
Hafeez slipped as he went back in his crease to hit Rory Kleinveldt to the cover boundary and he dislodged his bails.
