India v England, 1st Test, Ahmedabad, 4th day

Cook, Prior Live to Fight Final Day

Ahmedabad: England made remarkable comeback with an unbeaten 141-run sixth wicket stand between Alastair Cook and Matt Prior on Day 4 of the first Test against India at Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.

Cook and Prior stayed unbeaten at 168 and 84 respectively as England reached 340 for 5 at stumps.

Cook and Prior held the fort to frustrate Indian bowlers as England surpassed their 330 runs first innings trail. Skipper Cook led from the front as notched up 150 and Prior reached his 23rd half-century after tea on the penultimate day.

Umesh Yadav trapped both Ian Bell and Samit Patel plumb in front of the wicket off successive deliveries as England lost half of their side on 199.

Yadav first darted in a length delivery around off to Bell and it shaped back into the batsman with the shine of the ball. Bell tried to flick it across the line but missed and the ball thudded on the pads.

Yadav then speared in a fuller length delivery, on middle and leg, Patel remained glued inside the crease while looking to turn it across the line but missed and was rapped on the pads.

Cook reached his 21st Test century after Pragyan Ojha dismissed Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen in successive overs.

Zaheer Khan trapped Nick Compton plumb in front of the wicket with a great reverse swing delivery.
