Durban: A fierce bowling attack helped the Titans register a dominating victory over Auckland Aces in their Champions League T20 match in Durban.
Chasing a score of 173, the Titans never really gave the Aces a serious chance as Alfonso Thomas struck twice to dismiss Lou Vincent and Azhar Mahmood early.
Ethy Mbhalati then joined the party when he dismissed Martin Guptill, Colin Munro and Colin de Grandhomme cheaply and thereby denting the Aces chase.
However, Andre Adams and Michael Bates tried their level best to hold the innings as they put up a 45-run partnership for the last wicket to deny Titans an earlier victory.
Earlier, a fine innings by Jacques Rudolph guided the Titans to a mammoth score of 172/4 against Auckland Aces.
Rudolph (63) led the Titans attack before being dismissed by Michael Bates. A simple catch by Andre Adams at extra cover sent Rudolph back to the dressing room, who hit 7 boundaries in his swashbuckling innings.
Farhaan Behardien (48*) played a gem of an innings with 1 boundary and 3 sixes to help the Titans exploit the slog overs to the fullest.
Rudolph kept the ball rolling for the Titans, who lost skipper Martin van Jaarsveld (13) cheaply when he was caught comfortably at deep midwicket off the bowling of Kyle Mills,
After an impressive opening partnership for Titans, Azhar Mahmood gave Auckland its first breakthrough when he dismissed Henry Davids
Mahmood got the better of Davids' stumps, who completely failed to slice a slower delivery to third man. Davids hit 5 boundaries and a single six in his 23-ball 36.
