Mumbai: Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil was on Thursday named the chairman of selectors at the Annual General Meeting of the BCCI in Mumbai.
Other members of the five-member selection committee are - Saba Karim from East, Roger Binny from South, Vikram Rathour from North and Rajender Singh Hans from the Central Zone.
Patil was a surprise choice amid reports of Roger Binny being picked for the top position
The board also dropped Mohinder Amarnath from the selection panel despite him not completing his full 3-year tenure.
The decision came amidst the report of rift between Amarnath and the Indian cricket board.
Reports of Amarnath threatening to quit had surfaced after the selection committee had met in August this year to pick the Test team for the two-match series against New Zealand.
Amarnath had objected to MS Dhoni continuing as the Test captain after the twin debacles in England and Australia, but then chairman K Srikkanth refused to oblige and the former had threatened to leave.
BCCI sources suggest that the sacking of out-of-favour Amarnath would make way for Vikram Rathour.
Former chief selector Kris Srikkanth had served 4-year term during which India won the 2011 ODI World Cup as well as showed one of their worst performances in England and Australia.
