Hambantota: Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and decided to field against South Africa in the rain-curtailed match of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.
The match has been reduced to 7-over a side after the heavy downpour at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota spoiled more than two and half hours.
Already assured of their places in the Super Eight stage of the tournament, both Sri Lanka and South Africa would be eyeing a win to finish on top in Group C.
Both hosts Sri Lanka and South Africa had easy outings in their openers against Zimbabwe, who became the first team to crash out of the event with two consecutive losses.
While Sri Lanka mauled Zimbabwe by 82 runs, South Africa hammered Brendan Taylor's men by 10 wickets.
