Hambantota: Jacques Kallis came up with a fine spell of 4/15 while Richard Levi scored an unbeaten 50 as South Africa chased down 94 with 7.2 overs to spare.
Openers Hashim Amla and Richard Levi looked to torment the Zimbabwe bowlers with a quick fire 94 runs partnership in hope to start their World T20 campaign with a victory.
Both Amla and Levi, with impressive batting performances, hit a flurry of boundaries to help South Africa cross the 50-run mark before the sixth over.
AB de Villiers: "Very happy with the start. I back our pace bowlers to do well on this kind of deck. Hopefully its the same for the next game. Richard and Hash started really well. We are definitely prepared for whatever the conditions may be. We've improved a lot facing spin in these conditions, so can't wait to take on what's coming our way."
MOM Kallis said: "My job was made easier by the early wickets, I just came on and kept the pressure. There was a little bit of carry in the wicket which surprised us a little bit."
Brendan Taylor: "The conditions were testing. RSA have a classy bowling line-up. We let ourselves down again and so we are out of this tournament. The wicket had plenty to offer but we were too full or short. RSA also have quality batsmen. There is a long way to go for us but we have shown some positives in the last year."

Earlier, an impressive 4-wicket haul from Jacques Kallis helped South Africa restrict Zimbabwe to 93 for 8 in their World T20 match at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Hambantota.
Jacques Kallis packed the Zimbabwe middle order when dismissed Stuart Matsikenyeri (11) and Elton Chigumbura (0) in quick succession before scalping Graeme Cremer to make him his third victim.
Cremer hooked a decent delivery to the keeper, who had to trouble in receiving the ball at head-height.
Craig Ervine, who tried to hold steady when he had a decent partnership with Stuart Matsikenyeri, became Kallis' fourth victim when he was caught behind by de Villiers.
Earlier, Matsikenyeri fell to an impeccable Kallis delivery, which forced a catch to Robin Peterson.
Zimbabwe got off to a bad start as they lost their top order quickly when the Morkel brothers struck early.
Morne Morkel picked up two quick wickets in the form of Vusi Sibanda (O) and Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor (4) and gave the Proteas a decent start to their World T20 campaign.
Albie Morkel then joined the party when he scalped Zimbabwe opener Hamilton Masakadza (6). Masakadza, who hit just a single four in his innings, tried to lift the ball over the top but in the end only managed to find Richard Levi for a simple catch.
